I have always ridden 29ers but had a go on mates 27.5 today and liked how it handled in tight corners. It just felt a bit more lively!
Anyone gone mullet on theirs ? Advantages / disadvantages…… cheers

I have. 27.5 (2.6) both ends originally but I had a 29er fork on it from new. I dont think changing just the front wheel to 29 made mine noticeably less good at anything at all. Quite a lot of my riding is tight and twisty.

I keep a 27.5 wheel on the back mostly because I'm short and tyre already hits arse regularly enough.

Increasing front wheel size I think gave me more grip and feels faster. Increased my cornering confidence a bit. However, changing wheel size also changed angles and my tyre change wasn't exactly like for like, so it's not a very scientific test. What it also did was raise my bottom bracket up just enough that a bike that previously suffered a bit from pedal strikes (Moxie BB height on 27.5s is exceptionally low) no longer does. Even if it was just fof that reason alone I probably wouldn't go back. And I've got 165mm cranks.

On BB height, when I bought my Moxie, it was sold as for 27.5, 27.5+ or 29. I think now they just sell it as for 27.5+ or 29 wheels.

I mulleted my Starling Murmur and it was great. Feet felt a bit more vulnerable, but didn't actually encounter any extra pedal strikes. Bike felt like it cornered better and was a bit better in the steeps. I roughly measured about -1 degree head and seat angle and approx. -10mm BB height.

SO had a moxie, she is short so went 29 to mullet and first ride dinted BB, no structural damage but she did not like BB so low, it is really low.

I've got a mulleted full-sus and a 29er hardtail - wouldn't want it the other way around. It'll depend on the sort of riding you like, but I feel like losing the roll-over of the 29er on the back of the hardtail would be a bit of a frustration

I rode my Moxie as a mullet for a couple rides, but found the pedal strikes v. annoying. 29er was the best. Initially tried 27.5 all round which was a calamity!

Yes you should I will sell you a wheel to do it 😂😂
In all seriousness though I preferred my enduro bike as a mullet but hardtail is full 29er. Current full suss is 29er and I don’t feel there is anything wrong with it.
It’s worth experimenting if you able to I think

I have 2 sets of wheels for my chameleon and swap between +, 29, and mullet. Mostly it depends on what the conditions are like, what tyres I've go fitted to wheels, what sort of state they're in, and other maintenance issues. The + takes the sting out the back and you're mostly riding a HT fork like a pogo stick anyway. Nice to have options though and it's interesting noticing the differences when I do swap things around which I probably do every few months.

Cheers for the replies it’s much appreciated!!
I was worried about BB height. Going to borrow a mates 27.5 and give it a go.

Marksnook - have you got a 27.5 you want to sell on if I like the mullet set up ?

I planned to build a full 29er Moxie, but stuff was hard to come by during the build and a good mullet wheelset came up so that is how I built it. Can't say I've felt the need to change it. 140mm fork, can't remember many pedal strikes.
