So, I've got this

[IMG] [/IMG]

Its great...well, I say great, its mega heavy. And a bit of a faff getting the rear wheel in and out. In fact, its more than a faff, its a pain in the arse. And the head angle is a bit steep and I can't change it much more than the 66 degrees its currently set at.

I want to do some of the BDS rounds next year, am I going to get laughed out the pits if I turn up on this? If I do decide to change it, what 2nd hand frame would be suitable? I love those forks, they're soooo smooth (fair play Tomhoward, you know how to set a pair of forks up). So they'd stay, but I'd need a new rear wheel and shizzle because of all the gubbins on this

Doubt you'd be laughed at. Would probably garner some 'old skool kool' respect but I understand the desire to change it to something more contemporary.

What's you budget for a frame? Something like a Scalp would be a good move. Lots sold in 2012 and a lot of the fast boys will be selling there old frames on to update to 2013 so should be a few to choose from.

I have a Commencal Supreme DH V2 2011 frame sitting in my attic which I was going to keep and do something with but I'd be happy to sell it on. Not used much.

fevouredimage - how much do you think sir? Can I ask what size is it? does it run a 150mm back axle?

Stevied - appreciate the link sir, I've heard the angles are a bit dodgy on the freeride but a Glory Dh bike would be a good bet

If you want to buy something newish, tough & plenty fast enough, buy a Sunday frame. Just get an 08 onwards one.

Flange -

It's a size Large. I'm 6 foot and was spot on for me. I'll have to double check what the actual sizing was but the choice was small/medium/large. Runs a 150mm rear yes and comes with adjustable cups for your head angle. still got all it manuals and bits and bobs that came with.

Price.... Not given it much thought but £450 plus £20 postage?

Hmmm - I did have a look at a Sunday, just wondering if I'm not gaining much by going from the GT to one.

Fervouredimage - I want that! I need to punt some stuff on sharpish but consider me very interested. If you get chance, could you fire some pictures across to
wilkitcher at gmail.com

In fact - if you need any parts, let me know and we can do a deal. Basically if you need ANYTHING, I've probably got it!

Ta

Ok Flange. No worries. Like I said, It's just been in the attic for the past 9 months with no intention of selling it so I haven't advertised it anywhere so it's yours if you want it.

I'll try and take a few snaps tonight and send them over to you.

Well, without purposefully being rude about your current bike, those old GT's rode like a sack of sh*t, with a terrible gearbox design that constantly broke & lots of one off parts.

The Sunday really paved the way for low & long bikes. By modern standards it's not that slack any more, but bang a Works headset in it & it's as good as most other DH bikes out there. It certainly won't be the bike holding you back...

Not rude at all - the potential for bork is strong in this one. I bought it because i really wanted one when they came out and this came up cheap. The forks really are awesome on it, but the rest of the design not so much.

Rob H - there is VERY little chance of that!

Ability > bike. If you can ride then what does it matter, you've obviously been racing it enough locally to get the points to race National BDS race series, and your going to see plenty of the same faces.

Old Sunday frames ARE old now, you can pick up a cheap alloy Santa Cruz V10 for hardly any money this days which are infinitely better imho. Sundays rode ok but Just remember it was only Sam Hill that made everyone think Sundays were amazing. V10 34+ podiums @ UCI WC DH

Old V10's were no better than Sunday's. People short shocking them to sort out the wacky geometry, odd ride characteristics that people struggled to get on with.

I'd rather have an old Sunday many times over than a V10. There is a reason why there is still a shed load of them at the races. They are cheap, they ride well & if you look after them, they are bomb proof. Same goes for Glory's.

224's a good shout too, if you can, i'd stick with an Evo, they were less prone to cracking.

I'd have to check but I think the mk3 ally v10 has won more WC's than any other bike. The early mk1 and mk2 had various issues, but you can pick up a mk3 frame for peanuts now.

As an aside I know of a 2011 V10carbon fully spec'd going for <3.5kGbp. Only for sale as the owner is racing for Haven/Devinci next season. Excellent condition and best possible maintence (b&$tard never crashes either!)

The Devinci Wilson is another excellent bike.

Hmmm

I've just built up a decent XC bike so all funds have gone into that (or will when I pay for it) so I can't really stretch to 3.5k for another DH bike. I've got all the bits to built up a nice DH bike, including various parts from this one.

fevouredimage's offer sounds pretty tempting if I'm honest. I know Commencal have a bit of a reputation but I do like those frames and it'd be a cheap build, especially if I sell the GT to fund it.

Did you look through the DH bikes for sale section on Pinkbike already? Some great bargains to be had among the tat.

Personally I put my money where hob nob's mouth is and bought a cheap, mint condition '09 Sunday.

The Sunday Elites with Totems go for less than the models with old-style Boxxers, which is not a problem if you already have a 40 of course.

Can we have some more support for him to buy fervouredimage's Commie please? He's tempted, and he's got the willpower of a small child when it comes to buying bike bits!

Basically, I want to borrow it when Flange builds it up...
