Should I buy a Hope dropper lever?

I need a new dropper lever. I have Hope Tech 4 brake levers. I would like to attach a Hope dropper lever to my Hope brake lever.

Firstly, are they any good? They're bloody expensive when you factor in a mount. Do they work nice or should I buy something else?

Secondly, how do they attach? I can't find any pictures or part numbers for whatever piece you use to bolt them together. Does it use one of the shifter mounts? If so which one?

I've wasted money in the past trying to get the right matchmakers and i-spec parts so I'm keen not to do that again.

Talk me into it before I order a One Up with a boring bar clamp.

I've got one it works great and looks lovely!

It integrates with my Tech 4 lever and I don't remember buying any extra bits to make it fit

I have one mounted with my Shimano Spec EV brakes, used a bike yoke adapter. Much prefer it to the Shimano, One Up or Wolftooth ones I had. Enough so that I bought a 2nd one for the hardtail

They are nice, the adjustments are really useful to get the reach and throw spot on. It does need an adapter to mount to the brake clamp but I can't remember if it came with the brakes. Probably not! PXL_20250416_144053043.jpgPXL_20250416_144039943.jpg

Pretty sure it's just the left option of these

Will it work better than any other dropper lever ? Not really no. Will it look really good? Absolutely yes! Should you buy one? Yes

Not the cheapest device but it works really well and probably the nicest one on the market. I also integrated my shifter onto the brake lever as well. Makes the whole bar look a lot cleaner

I have one as i lost the tiny screw from my CRC cheapy dropper remote, and i wanted to integrate with my brakes.

I then lost the thumb pad bit first ride as it didn't have any thread lock on the screw (screw remained held in by the cable randomly).

I re-rode 12 miles optimistically looking for the thumb pad in West Wales

I ordered a new thumb pad and very much like the action and look after half a year of use.

Is it any better than the standard one that came with the dropper? probably not

Would i buy another, probably not as i found the little screw from the original remote under a cupboard when rearranging the dining room last weekend, so i technically have a spare one

You're right that looks lovely. So now I need a lever plus 2 shifter mounts for both sides.

I've got them on four of my bikes, all with Thomson droppers.

Bought the first one as I got a cheap dropper with no remote, then upgraded the others as I found that they are loads better than the standard Thomson ones.

You do have to buy the mount separately, which adds to the already high cost. I got one of mine at trade, and the others second hand. They are rare used, but keep an eye out, especially if you aren't fussed about colour. But yes, definitely recommended

After I installed mine and cut the cable to the 'correct' length and fitted a nipple, I then saw a video that shows the cable left longer and neatly tucked behind the thumb pad

looks like a spur cycles one or the rockbros copy. I have several of the latter.

You are asking the wrong people. Of Course. Make sure it matches colour wise.

I bought one recently they are nice but very pricey really. I didn't realise it didn't come with anything to mount it or I probably wouldn't have bothered tbh. I mean at RRP you are in for a fair few £ for a set of brakes and a dropper lever so it is a bit of a shame it doesn't come with any sort of bar mount as standard for the price.

Given the Shimano MT500 dropper lever is the same price as the mount you need to attach it to the brakes I'd have gone for that in hindsight; got one on another bike and it is decent.

I think it is the rockbro's bell from eBay or Amazon. They're great. The shiny silver one is my fave.

Weirdly that back tyre wasn't flat, but it certainly looks it in that picture.

Agree on the mt500 lever. I've got those on two bikes and they're brilliant for the money.

I thought they were a flashy fad and really liked my Wolf tooth dropper.   I was given one as a birthday gift and have to say its smooth and looks brilliant mounted with my E4s .

I've got one attached to Tech 3 E4s with their adaptor mount, using it with a BrandX Ascend (V2) post. The BrandX lever worked fine, but got moved to the old hardtail when I put a 1x drivetrain on and lost the left shifter. The fancier Hope lever was bought with some birthday money.

It's well made and works very well, the BrandX was fine but the Hope is nicer, so if you've got the money I'd say get one.

The anodising will start to rub off on the outer end of the paddle if you're bothered by that sort of thing.

My mum got my wife one for her 40th, it looks and feels great. And no extra clamp on the bars now so much tidiness.

It has made her dropper work better than ever, although I assume adjusting the cable slightly with the original lever would have had the same outcome 🤣

You can get them on Ali Express for £20 but I'm guessing they aren't made in Lancashire.

Right, I've ordered a lever and hopefully the correct mount. They're slightly reduced at Total Bleed Solutions if anyone fancies one.

I want a mount for the right as well but I'm not 100% which one I need so I'll leave that for now.

The price is justifiable (to me) because I'm improving 2 bikes. I can move the nice OneUp lever across to the other bike and put the small, stubby unbranded one in the parts bin.

I think you mean you can get a piece of tat with a Hope logo etched onto it, save yourself £20-£25 and moan a week later when it falls apart?

Nothing against chinese parts, but copies are a big no-no, especially when its ripping off literally the last manufacturer of bike parts in the UK.
