[Closed] Should a chain guide rub?

Having broken a rear mech due to a lost chain over bumpy ground I'm reluctantly fitting a chain guide.

I've opted for a OneUp Components BB mounted version. I have a Works Components oval ring, Race Face Evolve cranks, 11-42 cassette & 425mm chainstays.

I've fitted 1.5 spacers and the best it gives me is some rubbing at each extremity of chain line.

Is this normal? Am I missing something? Will it just bed in and shut up once worn?

I love a quiet bike.

Ta.

One bike is silent and one just tickles the guide on the lowest gear. Both run ovals.

A wee tickle is alright- it'll self clearance over time anyway- but if you're having rub at both ends I think maybe it's too far back? I have mine (a Shovel but it's basically the same thing) mounted basically directly above the BB so changing gears doesn't affect it much

Can’t say I’ve massively noticed my one up chain guide rubbing a lot - but perhaps it did a bit at the start and it’s now worn itself a little groove so it’s fine!

Depends on the bike, chainguide, drivetrain and fitting patience/bodgery.

Some you can set up silent, some will always rub.

I think the file may be making an appearance, it's taunting me as I winch up steep bits.
