My Öhlins spring is flaking and wondered if anyone has had their coil powder coated? Thinking of a colour change if it will work!

IIRC it has to be some sort of plastic based coat or it will simply get wrecked the first time it compresses. It can be done but I think the last time I saw it discussed was on descent-world!

I'd not blast a spring as I'd be worried about the effects on strength etc.

You'd almost certainly not be able to use STD paint either as it would be not be flexible enough. I guess people do this in the Motorsport world so might be worth looking there.

Shrink wrap of an appropriate size and colour would maybe work? Slip it on and get a hair drier on it, bob's your dad's brother. If it looks naff cut it off

er? What?

Coil springs are actually shot blasted/peened as part of their initial manufacturing process.

Shot-peening makes the springs stronger.

Also, most after-market suspension springs for cars/motorbikes are powder-coated.

Powder coating always gives up eventually - I really like the heat shrink idea though 🤔
