Mini has been using Decathlon shorts but is complaining that the padded liner is too thin, so I got him some Madison Trail youth shorts. There is no liner like in his Decathlon Rockrider shorts (a chamois sewn in at the waist with regular leg grippers). The pad is in a mesh lining sewn into the shorts at waist and at leg ends.

So, the questions are:

Does anyone have any experience with this type of short?

What should be worn as liner?

A - go commando
B - regular pants
C - compression type lycra undershorts
D - swimming trunks

Thanks for your input

Over the years I've had plenty of different brands, I've found the Madisons to be good value and comfy. I have 2 pairs of Madisons, 2 Altura and 4 DHB road tights, high end ones.

This where I bought my last ones, https://www.tredz.co.uk/cycling-shorts-under-shorts

Some form of seamless boxer.
I’ve got a couple of pairs of seamless kooga I think cycling shorts from my second row days which I wear with a couple of pairs of shorts like you mention. Weird things though.

Commando won’t keep things snugged up, regular boxers or swim trunks are going to leave him suffering a bit of chafage!

Thanks both,

@robertpb - I agree on the madison stuff, that why I went for them. I tried a lot of sites and few had non padded liners in kids sizes at a reasonable price.

@nickdavies - you confirmed my suspicion, I will look for some cheaper compression style shorts in decathlon and see if they pass the test.
