Something:

- not too long

- light material

- not garish

plain colour is probably the way to go. Something that's okay for non-bike stuff too. You get the idea.

quecha at decathlon do some nice reasonably close but still baggy stretchy plain shorts that fit nicely , work good on the bike and importantly have a belt that functions.

my go to these days for baggies

MH500 is the model , just looked it up . even come in enduro garish colours if you swing that way while your hanging 😉

My default answer these days for riding/casual shorts and in typical STW "recommend your own" style, check out the 7Mesh Glidepath. Light, incredibly durable and with loads of pockets they look great and I've yet to use a pair of shorts that feel this good to wear, they are just ace! The pockets are amazing as well, sounds silly to call pockets amazing but they really are, so well thought out, can easily ride with phone/keys in thigh pockets and not even feel them when riding. Not cheap I'll admit, but worth the price, I've practically lived in mine for the last 18 months and they still look new!

I have a pair of Alpkit shorts which are pretty good for cycling, and then hanging around.(not hanging out as that'd be bad)

tbh I have barely been out of Endura Humvees for the last 3 weeks. Picked up about 4 sets for £20 each at Wiggle last year. My original set from about 6 years ago are still going despite being used for MTB and all water sports. Only sign of damage is the little mesh vent has corroded away in sea water.

My stack of brand new liner shorts is what holds me back from switching to bibs though.

Those madison ones look good..hmm. I love shorts!

I have some of the Roams from up there. Smart enough to wear with a shirt (well, smart enough for me, anyhow). No problems with hanging out so far.

New model of Norrona Fjora shorts, they have much lighter fabric and sensible colour options too.

Fox ranger cargo fit the bill, they come with a removable liner for added bonus!

I wear my endura singletrack 2's off the bike more than on. Madison roam or zenith also work well on and off the bike.

Another vote for the Madison Roams. Plenty about in the sales

Patagonia Dirt Roamer - on sale at the moment direct. Subtle, light, good for most situations.

Check out jeanstrackworld. They do technical material that looks like denim. Very cool and non bike-y. Not worked out the new photo posting or I’d put up a picture of mine. I’ve been wearing them all season.

Endura Singletracks are my default for work, rest and play. Most MTB shorts are too long and baggy as casual wear.

Another vote the singletracks but surely the concept of "hanging out" might be taken the wrong way? Childlike s****s commence ...
