I'm currently cramming a 150 Thomson covert into my Cotic Flare. The cable attachment protrudes quite a long way under the post itself, and it's limiting how far I can insert the post into the medium frame. Probably got a couple of centimetres of post showing above the collar. Thought it was the right height, but it's clearly a bit too high as I'm picking up calf and achilles problems.

Has anyone compared max insertion length of various 150 droppers? I know Cotic use the RaceFace Turbine on their demo model, which seemed to disappear into the frame without any problems.

Obviously the ultimate solution is to go to 125mm (or externally routed), but I'd prefer to keep the extra drop if possible.

I have the opposite problem with my Solaris and a 125mm Lev.

I've always found 125mm perfect on everything else, but on the Solaris to get the saddle height right for peddling and climbing but in the Solaris I've got the minimum insertion line level with the top of the seat tube - which is obviously too high. I've liked the Lev for the cable junction box and the saddle moving without any dangly cables or hoses and I've had Lev's on several bikes now. The final problem is that with the post this high below the collar, even when the seat is down it's still actually quite high and high enough to be getting in the way which misses the whole point of droppers...

I clearly need at least a 150mm post but i'm baulking at the price of Transfers and kicking myself for missing Winstanley's clearing their 2017 stock a week or two ago.

Anyway, the point of this ramble is that I'm considering whether to go back to a plain 420mm post and QR for a while and think about this one rather than dashing out and spunking another £300 on a second dropper...

How about a nearly-new covert Thomson? 8)

Sounds like you should be looking at one of the 170 droppers.

@vincienup crc seem to be doing KS posts now and are a bit cheaper than what I recall, still a lot but I am also considering a 150mm for same reason as you, especially after I changed saddle which seems to be lower so I had to lift the post up, and they are quite short under the max height mark on Levs http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/s?q=ks&cat=direct

I just got a 150mm in my M flaremax. That seat tube bend is pretty high up. On my Mojo3 which is a L, the KS lev 150mm again just fits with about 1/2 inch to spare between collar and seat tube. There was useful stuff on Ibis site showing the length of various droppers and KS is better in this regard I think because the collar is far narrower than a reverb.

Worth the effort tho, there's much I don't notice between bikes but 125mm and 150mm I definitely do.

You may well be longer of leg than me! Was it a KS Lev?

No it was a reverb. But it was already 2nd hand and my mechanically minded mate modified it a bit. By hacking off a bit of material at the bottom of the post and chamfering the end. It gave me about another half inch and that was all I needed. Also ran 170mm cranks and a low height saddle. Can do some measurements if it'd help.

I don't think the KS would have helped. With the Mojo3 the issue is not really how far the post goes into the seat tube, it's more what's sticking out the top. With the Cotic, the issue was definitely getting enough post into the set tube as I'm still nowhere near slammed at the top of the seat tube

oh 31 and a bit inch leg hiding in a 5ft11 inch frame. Long and low geometry works for me 😉

really shouldn't have read that. currently running a shimmed 30.9 125mm reverb. if those number are right I can fit a 31.6 160mm drop revive in the same space....

Yeh, you're much taller than me. I'm very much at the 'only just' end of fitting on a medium. - 5ft 7 and a bit, 30 inch leg, 170 cranks.

I'm running a Easton Haven 150mm on a Cotic Flare Max medium frame, 32 inside leg, if that helps

I think the Haven is effectively the same post as the Turbine, which I think will probably fit.

Yep Haven and Turbine are exactly the same. Licensed technology from 9point8 I think. Another mate has one of those and it's been fantastic. I really liked the Turbine dropper on the demos but as I was going to attack it with a pipe cutter, felt it was better to go with the 2nd hand reverb 😉

Your right, its a good bit of kit, was running a Thomson 125 before but quality feels up there.

Pretty much why I'm wondering about sitting this one out for a bit and working through the options. I've ended up with far too many bikes and far too much bike stuff the last couple of years.

I was trying to avoid drilling the frame, but external droppers that are long and don't have droopy hoses are getting quite thin on the ground :/

Drill the frame 😉

If it helps, my Reverb is the 150mm/420mm (well a bit less now!) length. There's 75mm between the top of the seat tube and the top of the reverb collar.

Take a look at the BikeYoke Revive. It's a) great, and b) the 160mm version has a lower stack height than a 150mm Reverb.

I saw the Bike Yoke dropper after clicking through the link above. It does look good, esp as you're getting a Triggy in with it. If I do go the £300 route and drill option that could be one... (or possibly a Turbine). The CRC option is tempting too though ...

Bike Yoke one looks perfect, dimensions-wise.

Just been out and measured, and my current minimum 150 Thomson position, which is about 5-10mm too high, is about 245mm above the seat collar, and 255 or so below it. Quoted length is 487, so quite a bit longer than that once you add on the rigid end cap on the cable which sticks out under the attachment.

Bike yoke one claims to have total length of 467, which should fit fine. With a centimetre more drop.

Anyone else got a review of it in action?
