Need to chop about 15cm off each hose. Can i do this without needing to bleed the brakes?

I ASSUME if i pump the pistons out slightly, cut the hose and re-affix it, open reservoir cap and push pistons back in i will be ok?

sound right??

You'll need a new olive and barb I would think?

The olives cant be reused. But, they are super cheap. Good to have a spare lying about anyway. I bled and trimmed hoses at the same time.

Barbs are easy to get out if you heat the hose, olives can be had from any engineers merchants

Place cable in a vice pointing upwards, cut with cable cutters, try to cut as straight as possible. Tap in new olive, re-insert brake cable, test lever.

Ah, the hose itself was super easy to cut. Cable cutters do a fine job.

If your doing it from the lever end. Push the pistons out a fair bit first (before cutting / removing the hose from the lever).
Withdraw the hose and cut it and then try and hold it vertically (so as not to lose fluid) install barb and olive, tighten and finally push the pistons back in. This should force the fluid and any air back into the lever.
You may need to bleed it from the caliper up if you're unlucky.
Let me know how you get on, i've got to do this next week.

Sorry, I'm not quite sure if you're being clear here. Do you have the spare olive and insert or not?
😀

Use a stanley knife to get a clean cut. Then tap in the barb and stuff the olive and pop it back in and tighten. Job done and very unlikely to need bleeding if you do it quick enough. Prolly need those yellow block things to help tap the barb in.

I followed the guide on bikemagic.
