I have excess hose on my front M4 brake, Ive just decided now after about 3 years to shorten it to make it look a bit tidier.
What I'd like to know is if I do will I need a new brass olive or can I use the original one ,or is it just not worth the time and effort ?

you can use the old one

don't take it off - just push it down & cut

Take a look at this:

All carried out on an Mono M4 front brake.

if there the same as mono mini's they are a piece of pee.
the olive is a split design, just split it a little then pull it back.
next get a small blade screw driver and try to pry the hose away from the fitting, it is just a push fit but nice and tight.
cut hose, refit, bleed, bingo.

Would it be as easy as that with braided hoses?

not sure about braided, guess they are fitted the same, take the back nut off and have a look if they have the split olive.
