I've just helped a friend build up his new On One Ti. Onl show stopper was shortening the brake hoses. I've got Hope brakes on all my bikes, new had any other make, so whereas I know what to do on Minis/ M4s/ C2s/ XC4s etc, I was flumoxed by the Avid need for a special brake bleed kit. Is it essential - anyone got any ideas?

Get the bleed kit. It makes the job easy, and there are fittings included to shorten the hoses anyway.
There are plenty of vids available to walk you through the process in the usual places. You can try and botch it, but the results will be correspondingly bad.
