Hi there,
I am 6'5" with almost 38" inseam and long arms and currently riding 23" Superfly HT. I am looking for new FS bike but I ride mainly XC (no racing). Next bike must be comfortable for longer rides in flat terrain (~80km) and occasional trips in the mountains (~50km with over 1000m elevation). I narrowed my choice to Trek and Specialized because only these brands offer XXL bikes in my price range. Here are the candidates:
- Trek Fuel EX 8
- Specialized Camber Comp 29
- Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp 29
Trek has the best specs: Full XT / GX Eagle, Fox Rhythm, boost wheels but it may not be the best climber.
Camber is more XC/Trail oriented, which is good in my case and additionally it should fit the best (even in XL). On the other hand it has the worst kit, no dropper, no boost.
Stumpjumper shares front triangle and most of the components with Camber but it has dropper and XD driver. Is there a big difference between these 2 bikes in case of climbing?
What are your opinions?
Hi
6"4 and 36 inseam here
I'm on an 21"/ xl orange segment.
I looked at the 23" stupmjumper but was seduced by the segment which was ex demo ( cheaper).
The local specialized concept store were happy to organize getting an xxl stumper in for me to test. If there is somewhere local to you why not try and organize a demo?
I tried a camber and stump jumper round the car park. I think they were large in different spec. The stumpjumper felt "better" round the car park. They are almost the same bike, and it was a very brief test,so the difference surprised me.
I'd definitely try and get a demo if you can.
Interesting input on Stumpy vs Camber comparison...
There is no Orange bikes where I live and the closest Specialized Concept store is few hundred kilometers from here 😉 I tried to test their bikes on some events in my area but they did not have even XL bikes. I have ridden XXL Fuel EX but it was previous generation.
Ah, I always assume people on here are UK based 🙂
Couple of hundred k= an excuse for a long weekends adventure, with a short bike test ride?
Lots of folk in the UK are several hundred km from a Concept storetall_martin - Member
