I tried the bars but they are shiny and tapered and seeing as I have a wahoo mount with requiring cables ties, it slips down.

Any obvious remedies other than a backpack?

If you put it in your pack/pocket then it won’t distract you! 😉

but they are shiny and tapered

Put a wrap of tape underneath?

Wearing a backpack with just a Wahoo in it seems excessive.

Garmin Oregon goes on bars. That's also a zip-tie mount. Two suggestions...

Wrap a bit of inner tube around the bars and put the mount and zipties there. Done up real tight, that'll stop the mount rotating.

A few wraps of insulating tape around the bar just outboard of where you mount the computer will build up the profile enough to stop it slipping along the taper.

On the top tube, just behind the stem. The stem gives a bit of protection to it when I inevitably fall off

I put my Wahoo on my bars, although it comes with an outfront mount too. Also have a mate who has one and has a Garmin top cap mount which only needs minor mods to fit a Wahoo.

Garmin is on a knock-off 'out front' type mount - puts it where you can actually see it too. Bar clamp section is only about 5mm wide so it grips the taperered handlebar fine.

Top cap mount, I've got a k-edge, Mrs a lifeline from Wiggle which is a third of the cost and no different. K-edge where the only one available when I got mine.

Thinking about getting a toptube mount though so I can get a OneUp EDC 🙂

Had a barfly Mount for my Garmin, now have a watch. Not really bothered about seeing the numbers in real time.

It really is crazy to pay out for K-Edge branded mounts when you can buy exactly the same off ebay for a fraction of the price.

I have mine on the top tube now, currently I am using the standard rubber band mount but I have also used the 76 Projects adhesive toptube mount which is a much neater solution which I will probaably go back to at some point. Previously I had a top cap mount but I prefer it on the top tube.

On my wrist.

This is a fair point - instead of using my elmnt and specifically because this is my play-bike I'm talking about I will use my Instinct instead.

Just think of the watt savings of a front mount that keeps your GPS unit below the top of your stem. 😉

No watt savings on this shits & giggles bike.   Such talk is heresy when riding it.

I made a top tube mount from a Garmin quarter turn mount thus:
cut off the 4 'hooks' for the rubber loops and sanded the stubs smooth.
Taped some rough abrasive paper to the top tube and sanded the bottom of the mount on it until it matched the tube profile.
Stuck some helitape on the frame then used Scotch VHB tape to stick the mount onto that.
It hasn't come off yet but you can still pull it off if you try so I attach the little lanyard loop to one of the cables as a backup

Barfly mount, if I didn't have the EDC tool I'd have it backwards over the stem.

Sadly not an option on the threaded steerer Hybrid of Doom.
