As per the title really, does anyone know of any really short (sub 50mm) stems for kids bikes?

The Isla 20" I just picked up from a friend is just that little bit too big for my daughter and think a reduction from the 60mm stem it's got right now would be beneficial.

The bars are standard 25.4mm if it helps.

Any about?

Cheers

Gary

You can get a reducer shim for 1.125" to 1" steerer - plus you can get handlebar shims so you can just use a regular stubby stem.

I have seen a couple of those available but they don't seem to get good reviews for some reason so was looking to see if anyone has any other ideas before oredering one.

Anyone got a sub 40mm stem pref for 25,4mm bar and cheap?

Been using shims on various bikes for 23 years without any problems (including Mrs racing elite xc World champs with one - which is how I remember our first use of one)

Some current Giant mtbs even come with them as standard (eg Anthem 29er has a regular 1 1/8" at the top tapered fork but comes with Giants 1 1/4" stem and a sleeve).

A kids bike really will be totally fine. Much more choice of stems and stem useful for more stuff later.

I used shims on the boys bikes when they were younger. Worked fine and gave me a lot of cheap stem options.

For kids bike I use short stems from:

Cansucc

Available via amazon or similar. Around 10 GBP and surprise, surprise - great quality!
Kids are very happy with them. Available for "strange" handlebar diameters as well.

Shims people giving bad reviews on them are on crack. Send me you address and i'll send you a shim for a 1 inch steerer.

Well I use one on my time trial bike and a track bike as well. Shims are fine. I clamped mine onto the original threaded steel steerer. You put a lot more atress on the steerer on a TT bike.

Get a shim.
