Am waiting for a credit card to arrive, but in the meantime have gone ahead and bought a spanky new raincoat in anticipation of a proper soaking this weekend.
So anyway, if the CC arrives next week, could I take the jacket back to the shop (to show them its still in one piece), ask them to refund my debit card then charge it to the CC? I'm guessing there's some sort of time interval beyond which this is seriously dodge, is a week or two too long? Or is it a case of the warranty having already started and me cheating the manufacturer out of an extra week?
If I've just suggested something horribly illegal I'm pleading ignorance... 🙄
Nothing illegal, but the retailer is under no obligation to do it, tbh i would refuse based on the grounds it takes 1 week for the money to be debited back to your account and it sounds fishy!!
And won't the retailer cop for CC fees?
LMT, I understand the first bit, your second point though, why would that worry the retailer (they've got £200 of my money from the CC, while also taking a week to refund the first £200?). I'd hope the guy recognised me from having been in often enough and giving him chat, but the fishy bit might still stand.
Hadn't thought about fees, they're a big store so I imagine they'd have a 'policy'.
At least a siren won't go off if I go in and at least suggest it...
When we first opened the store i work in, we had a massive money laundering issue, they paid in cash, then wanted a refund for clean notes, then other occasions where they purchased something on a card then wanted a refund then we caught them paying with another card. Ended up police involved, handing over cctv footage so any odd requests like this would now be refused.
CC = minimum 2.5% fee from bank / streamline. Debit card 25p flat fee. Not to mention the "why" aspect.
If ure short on £££ just use cc to purchase everything else, or withdraw cash off it and take the hit for the bank fee yourself.
Not really short of cash, it would just have been convenient, however if it starts being some sort of embarassing haggle trying to convince them I'm not a crook then perhaps I'll not bother! 8)
