Treated myself to a pair of sidi road shoes, but the bolt pattern is totally different from the mtb pattern i have been using uptill now. do i have to replace my shimano spd pedals now too? or can i buy a road cleat to suit my old pedals?

You need road cleats and the relevant pedals.

road cleat = triangular pattern
mountain cleat = two bolts
no cross compatibility I'm afraid,so your lovely road shoes need road cleats and road pedals. Get some Looks.

Ignore the above.

You need an SPD cleat stabilizer. Search for SM-SH40 from Shimano. Or buy some new shoes... I couldn't find any in stock. Good luck.

EDIT - just noticed you have SIDI shoes not Shimano, so may not be compatible.

Is anyone else put off buying Sidi shoes by those horrendously camp ads on Eurosport?

Sorry, just sayin'...

But yeah, as the others say, new pedals time I'm afraid.
