I've got a 2006 Orange 5 with a 2007 Manitou X3 shock.
Would an shock upgrade be worthwhile? I'm not looking at spending too much (under £200) and have seen some Monarch shocks in the sales and a DT swiss carbon one heavily reduced on CRC. Any experience of these or others?
Up front I have a 2007 vanilla R fork.
Thanks

For what it's worth, I think a shock upgrade would benefit you. However, I wouldn't go for a DT Swiss shock on a single pivot. The Monarch may well be a good option. A friend had a RP23 upgrade from a Manitou and noticed a huge difference so the Monarch should be close enough...

An RP2 or RP23 will work wonders on your bike - i did the same a few years ago. I bought a used one for £100 and then had it serviced so it was just like new for just under £200.

Get a low volume air shock. Monarch or Fox would do nicely.

Low volume ramps up nicely and gives you something to push against. High volume air just whops through the travel too quick. IME.
