Thinking of getting a Fox Float R either tuned by a trusted specialist, or spending a bit more & having it Pushed.

Anyone have experience of both ?

I know what I want (poppy feel, small bump compliance, no bob, enough ramp up for the odd decent drop) and I carry a 'Powerful' physique.

I've just gone down the "self" tuning route.

Bought a seal kit and a set of air-can volume adjusters from mojo and rebuilt the shock.

The problem I had was that the shock was blowing through it's mid-stroke and sitting well into the travel on climbs making it not that sprightly, but it was handling the rough stuff well etc.

So I serviced the shock and put one of the compression/air-can adjuster shims in and now the shock does just what I want.

Cost a grand total of £27 for the bits and 45 minutes of my time 😀

Get a Monarch Plus if you can, I had one on my Covert and it rode just like what you're looking for. I'm a heavy chap at 14 stone.

it really does depend on what rear-suspension set up you have (FSR, Single Pivot, VPP, APP)

Also another factor is you need to take into consideration what tune your shock has come with out of the factory (compression, rebound - low/medium/high?)

You will not go far wrong talking to Simon at Loco Tuning...... great informative chap!

why change to a monarch? the fox is a capable shock.
Personally I just the shock tuned for my weight and bike and leave it at that. There is nothing a custom tune can't do that would warrent getting the push tune

I agree..... Had a new shim stack in a Float R on an APP SC Butcher, the bike blows me away now, best £60 i have spent!

What does a PUSH actually do then? Do they put special bits in the shock or something?

Rickos, I believe a Push jobby changes a few more other parts aswell as shims, where as a tune just changes the shim stacks. I think.

yes

http://www.pushindustries.com/2009/index.php?menu_id=30&type=products&title=FOX%20Float%20R&product_id=31

but then thats almost the same as a custom tune from the likes of mojo, loco, tf etc etc.

Does that make a difference? Would rather support a guy working for himself than a big company!
