I have 2 shocks for my full suss, a fox float that is leaking and the Marin "Shock Works" coil-shock that came with it which has poor damping while riding (but feels like a lot of rebound when the spring is off) and presumably needs some oil inside?
I presume all I can do with the former is send it to TFT etc for a "please bend over" style estimate,?
The latter has a circlip holding it together, is it worthwhile taking it apart? (the label says not to!) It's ~12 years old and from Marin's bottom end FS.
12 years old, you could try a new air seal kit? However you might be able to pick up a replacement cheaper than it costs to get it repaired.
What size is it
exactly - which is why I am looking at a DIY repair...you think I could get a seal kit for a 12 year old unbranded OEM shock? And do I need one?
Where's the float leaking from? You could try doing an air can service on it, Seal kits are easy to get..
Al send the Fox shock down and I'll have a look 😉
All I know is it's not leaking from the valve - I've done the air can seal before, I'll pop it in a sink full of water, ta for that!
Loco - cheers, will see how I go
Hmmm the bathroom sink test shows it's the air can seal, BINGO!
"How bizarre"!...a clean of the seals and no pressure drop!
Woohoo! 😀
