How was it today Rob, I imagine very very muddy?
Best to stay away during winter / wet weather. Its a bit sensitive and can get very wet

Used to go a fair bit but it does turn into a bogfest very easily....

.....last time we went it was great though.....seems that trail fairies have been busy with DH tracks / jumps....

This plus Crich across the A6 make a great half day.....

Just please take note of 'iain1775', that goes for all riders. Trail fairies need to ease off. I am responsible for parts of the woodland, so have to live both sides of the fence. I don't want the balance upsetting 'razor's edge'!

Paul.

All the 'fairies' work appears official looking.....in that I can't imagine you can sneak that amount of raw material into a wooded area....

Anyhoos, most sensible stay away went areas are muddy as you only ruining it for yourself when it does dry out....

It's not official, and barely tolerated at best.

Would echo the comments about staying away when wet - it's got so chewed up lately (especially after the summer we've had), and it's sensitive at the best of times. It's a real mess right now, and it's not doing us any favours.

It's one of my favourite local places to ride (and walk), and I'd be gutted to see a repeat of the ban from a few years back.

It was an absolute quagmire today in and around the woods. I'll be staying away unit it dries out.

Am local and been riding there a long time, agree with Al, it is a great spot but probably the less said on popular Internet forums about it the better. It's status is very tenuous, and a return of the complete ban on bikes would not be welcome. And yes it has not held up well due to this summer combined with heavy bike traffic..

As another local i have to note that it's been 'tenuous' for the last 20 years......, and i can't really say I've noticed the bike traffic there increase that dramatically. Trail fairy issues have raised their head now and again, and it should be left untouched due due to wildlife issues. But whilst i say don't dig, i would be a hypocrite to say don't ride. If you want some wheels off the ground fun, drum hill is sporting a couple of impressive features at the moment, not sure how long they will survive with it's history of being 'cleared' periodically.

I've been riding there at weekends for the last 20 years and never had a problem.

What is this so called bike ban that happened? Never heard anything so crazy
Were they waiting in the woods and taking people's bikes off them? If so I never saw any of this.

At best I think they got a little upset when Jon Holbrook turned up and knocked a dry stone wall down.
Riding in there has always been frowned upon but never banned.
