I have a set of Shimano XTR M980 triple cranks (104 BCD) and I want to convert the bike from 3x9 to 1x11. I'm presuming I'm completely overthinking this and that it's a simple 'yes', but can I put a narrow/wide chainring on the crankset and thus convert it to single front ring?
Do I need to worry about any Q factor issues or is that all unneccesary?
Thanks!

Indeed you can, I have just that, I assume it works a treat though haven't actually ridden them, were bought as a ready to go 1x11 setup on here.
