I've a pair of shimano xtr m9000 brakes and both the levers, plus my spare lever have been struck by the same issue of the piston sticking inside the lever, basically they're now useless, and out of warranty. is there any fix to this problem? seem a bit crap as its a minimum of £120 to sort out a design failure, what are my chances of approaching madison for some assistance?
Been there, done that (M980 levers). Tided myself over using saint levers which are the same shape just a different finish and a chunk cheaper.
They're now dying again (not sticky yet, but the MC is weeping fluid and needs bleeding before every ride), so it'll be a swap to Hope.
There is a video somewhere of a bloke fixing this on M8000 with some spray lube, maybe silicon? Apparently it is caused by people not following Shimano instructions to lube them after washing. The mechanism and where they slide on the outside of the piston seal is the issue.Apparently the pistons themselves don't stick, its all down to the mechanism. If I remember rightly he sprayed the silicon down in the direction of travel of the piston and just kept flicking it and it popped back. Gotta be worth a try.
