Hi all,

I switched to 12sp in April, getting a complete Shimano XT micro-spline rear wheel for simplicity.

Now the freehub had been acting up - to the point of slipping even when turned by hand.
I've taken it apart and cleaned it. There was so much dust and dirt ingress which probably pushed the ratchet mechanism apart.

On reassembly it works better but sporadic slip is still there - some the the parts are a little worn. So I'm weighing up trying to get it replaced/fixed under warrantee, or just trying to get a new freehub kit (probably much faster).

Any one had similar issues, and know who would stock freehub replacement kits for the shimano 8100 hubs. I'm guessing
they are available but I can't seem to find one online
Thanks for any tips

Mine has been in the LBS for 6 weeks. Apparently no kits in Austria. Quite annoyed!

Just a plastic ring. But the fundamental problem has no fix yet. That’s what I was told anyway.

I can imagine if any of the plastic parts are deformed it would screw it up. The ratchet mechanism is a strange one.

I went all Shimano because I wanted reliability, but I'm not impressed with this 12sp generation
I had issues with the rear mech too. So much dirt got in it caused the clutch mechanism to stick.
fix was easy but the sealing should be better.

FYI: just posted to MTBR

Hi Guys

As I wrote somewhere above or below! I had at XT rear wheel on which the free hub failed. I ordered the wheel via AMAZON PAY so did not get a clear receipt. Anyhow the SHOP are disputing the failure!.

In the meantime I bought the cheapest 'donor hub' possible... SLX 7100 and switched out the freehub mechanism. Now the bike is working well - the hub pickup at power on is good and freewheel is silent.

I'm happy as the Autumn weather is good- and I'm riding, but unhappy I've shelled out 50 notes for a quality issue.

Any idea what I should do??. Direct to shimano with full explanation which seems the easiest path.

.... Also I left v. weak plastic the finger washer in (which supposedly facilitates the Sylnce feature) Should I take that out. It got mashed up in the original hub... so maybe it will get mashed up again.

Thanks in advance for any advice...

No idea about the Shimano microspline freehubs, but my DT one is fuss free.
