Hi all. Having had my Sram SX equipped Whippet for a few months I've had my old concerns about Sram confirmed and I still don't like their kit. If I got hold of a Shimano 12sp rear mech and shifter would it work with the rest of the Sram mince?

If not I reckon I'll be swapping the groupset for Shimano 2x10 or 11.

Yes.

Doesn't even need the shifter, but I'd swap as I prefer the Shimano shifter.

As said above, a 12 speed Shimano derailleur works fine with the rest of the SRAM Eagle kit, including the shifter. I have SLX on 2 bikes as replacements for worn out GX Eagle derailleurs.

Does this work both way rounds? I don't mind the GX stuff on my scandal but it would be good to run an Slx cassette on some Microspline wheels.

I assume once I get the stops aligned the spacing is close enough if the shifters are interchangeable?

@jonba
12 speed MTB cassettes have the same sprocket widths between them, so shimano cassette on sram gears will work fine.

Oooh interesting. Does a Sram 11spd speed shifter work with a shimano rear mech too like you're saying 12spd does? I need a new XX1 rear mech, but have seen that I could get a XTR shifter and mech for the same outlay, but maybe can get away with just mech- keeping the nice XX1 cassette. The XX1 has never shifted as well as it ought to for its price point...though may be down to a very short chain stay and whack chainline on my hardtail. The only loss I see is the narrow-wideness in the jockey wheels but maybe this doesn't matter.

Great thanks.

The scandal wheels are ropey. So when my plan was to put my FS wheels on my scandal (MS with SLX) and buy some new wheels for the full suss. Probably MS with XT as the price of top end Eagle is nuts.

the 11 speed will work with a 12 speed mech, as srams x-actuation is for both 11 and 12 speed. I think 11 speed shimano mech will, but don't know for sure, as I'm a pervert who's running 11 sped sram gripshift with 10 speed shimano mech and cassette.

this may or may not help: http://blog.artscyclery.com/science-behind-the-magic/science-behind-the-magic-drivetrain-compatibility/

Don’t rate all SRAM stuff by SX, it’s exceptionally terrible, NX and GX are massive steps up.

Running a 12spd Deore RD with Sram NX Eagle cassette and shifter since August. No issues, everything works
