Will a m8000 shimano cassette work with sram X1 shifter and mech.
Think I may need to replace my cassette and looking at the prices there's a massive difference between the costs of shimano/steam cassettes

What freehub and cassette are you currently running. You may need new freehub if you want to swap from sram to Shimano.

I thought it was an X1 one which seem riduclous at £150+ but a replacement one if these is only £80.
Still, more expensive than an xt one and it ain't lasted

The only 11-speed SRAM MTB cassette that fits on a standard freehub is NX, I think, and I doubt that's what you're looking at because it's £45 a cassette.

If you compare like with like SRAM is actually cheaper, £75 for a GX vs £77 for the XT 11-46 (similar gear range). The XT cassette is about 450g despite an alu biggest ring, vs GX at 401g and all steel (and the freehubs are lighter).

The narrower range XTs can be had for £55 but you're giving away gears there and still about 50g heavier all in so you do lose some valuable stuff for your £20 saving.

You'd need to change your freehub from an XD driver to Shimano and you'd lose the 10T.

I reckon the Sram 1150 is the best value as it's a fair chunk lighter than an XT 11-42 and all steel (Xt has alu 42T)

Found same cassette for £83 so may well be better sticking with SRAM then?

GX is an excellent cassette, as said above. Shifts better than my XT, lighter and as it's steel, will last longer.

If you compare like with like

not sure that's even possible now that SRAM has so many budget levels.
NX=Deore NX=also SLX, GX=XT, X1=XTR, X01=another XTR, X11=yet another XTR?
Can only really compare roughly like for like prices.

XT cassette here is a smidge over NX prices for 11-42, and the 11-46 is 15 cheaper than GX 10-42. Pick NX or GX depending on the freehub type you have. Or pay another 70 (ie roughly double) for a replacement freehub body (assuming it's easily changeable, like on Hope Pro2/4).

GX is pretty comparable to 11-46 XT tbh. Shimano just don't have anything that competes with the high end SRAM cassettes.
