Has any one used an slx m7000 chain ring with a 12spd shimano chain in their 12 spd setups?
I had a look into this the other day, from my research i am pretty sure i established it would not work, although i was looking for m8000.
Shimano 12 speed has some sort of chaindrop technology that doesnt exist on 11 speed. You may be able to use a KMC chain, however i am not sure if a 12 speed chain will ever work on an 11 speed chainring (is it not narrower?)
Why dont you buy a chainring that fits your cranks, absolute black make a 12 speed 96BCD chainring and then you have a full 12 speed drivetrain.
Shimanos 12sp hg+ chain has extended inner links to aid shifting under load up n down the cassette and improve chain retention.
I'm using XT 12sp with m8000 cranks using a burgtec ring, it works fine despite not being made for 12sp shimano, some narrow wide rings are more aggressively profiled than others, I don't think shimanos 11sp is that aggressive so could work okay but can't confirm.
The specific 12sp hg+ compatible rings for m7000/m8000 asym 96 bcd cranks seem seriously overpriced to me, there are alternatives so you don't need to ditch your 11sp shimano cranks or drop £60+ on a chainring.
