Getting there with my Di2 setup to go on my Caad12. I now have all the Di2 stuff and once charged and connected there’s life! Just added in the Dfly module and need to check if stuff is up to date / play about with shifter settings. Before I strip the old 105 mechanical off the bike I want to make sure I’ve got every thing I need to get it fully up and running.

I’ve never played with shimano road brakes before (they can setup on the bike) and they seem to have some kind of inline hydraulic connector. The new Di2 levers have a short bit of hose with a yellow cap over the end so assume these have hydraulic fluid in them. Is it just a case of unscrewing the old hoses and screwing them into the new lever ones? Or do I need to get a new barb / olive etc in there?

I need to order a bleed kit and mineral oil anyway - so if I need anything else I’d like to order it at the same time.

I think then I’m good with every thing I need other than some kind of internal battery holder for the seatpost.

Called J-kit I think. SLightly handy if you have internal routing I guess. Yeah, they're pre-filled

You will need a barb and olive. The connector with the cap is just like a remote version of the port you'd normally screw the hose into. Make sure you get the right size of barb for the hose you are fitting (silver for BH-90 or gold for BH-59).

I have internal routing and I already have hydraulic callipers on the bike. My plan is to leave them untouched with all the routing and just connect those hoses to the new ones on the new shifter. They look like they’re the same type of thing as the old one but before taking the old ones off I want to check if I need some kind of consumable element to them to reattach

Ah thanks for this - you posted whilst I was writing my last post. I’ll pop out in the garage shortly and check what hose I’ve got then. I can finally then order the last few bits and then I’ll have to go for it!

You won't necessarily need a new barb and an olive - the line has the barb in and the connector has a new olive in, so you just need to screw it down. The line is often too long, though, so you should insert the line from the caliper to see how it looks, but do not tighten it up.

If it's more or less the right length then game on. If it's not, then don't tighten it up or you'll need to get a new olive - cut the caliper part to length, retrieve the barb (awkward but doable) and refit it with those two yellow blocks, a vice, and a hammer. You can then connect it up, bleed, and ride.

Ah ok. The caliper hose is the right length as it’s already on the bike. The new hose with the yellow cap on it on the shifter is about the same length as the one on the old shifter. So I maybe good to go in that case.

Will still need a bleed kit in case I lose fluid / get air in the system as I swap it over.

Some of the generic bleed kits don't have the road funnel adapter thing you need for road brakes. St-r9120 I believe

@akira - thanks for that. There does appear to be some variation in bleed kits and which claim to be ok for road bleeding.

I may have fallen foul of this when building a bike and spent ages trying to track one down before realising they had supplied one in a random plastic bag...🙄

Ordered the epic bleed kit version that says it does shimano road brakes sti’s. Also ordered a new barb / olive from them just in case (bh59 is written on the hoses)....

Just waiting for that to arrive plus some new bar tape and Di2 frame grommets then I think I’m going to go for it.

Got the E-TUBE app on my iPhone and so going to check firmware etc and play with which buttons do what.

Tempted to just bulk out the seatpost battery with tape to get it jammed in the post!

Check the description for the epic bleed kit as it says for road discs you need the adapter which isn't included in the kit. Even though it says it's compatible with road discs....
