I bought a croix de fer frameset and built it up with a Tiagra 4700 groupset and found that the front derailleur with the long actuation arm was too close to the rear tyre. After playing around with shims to no avail and finding shimanos compatibility chart suggests that nothing but Tiagra 4700 front mechs are ok to use I read somewhere (probably on here) that the 4700 shifters were now running the new 11 speed cable pull.
I ordered one of the new 105 r7000 front mechs, just fitted it and can say the new design rx000 11speed front mechs work with the tiagra 4700 front shifter. It's increased clearance from the actuation arm to the tyre by around 10mm and should solve a lot of issues that I've read people were having with this era of groupsets - especially the croix de fer.
Couldn't find this info anywhere so thought my first real post on the forum was warranted after getting so much info from here in the past.
Thanks for sharing that it’s bound to be usefully to someone when the they suffer with new tiagra issues
Shimano sort of relased 4700 and then let us all find out it won’t work with older tiagra or much else for that matter
Handy. It's great when folk try things out and expand our collective knowledge.
Scar, i have PM you
Ditto, I ended up using a R8000 mech with 4700 shifters/chainset - worked flawlessly. I think it was becoming such an issue they released a new 5800 mech outside of the normal product cycle (FD-5801)

Did they? I was pretty clear about it being the new lever architecture (though I was looking for something that would work well with the hy rd calipers without having to rebuild my rear wheel) which had different cable pull and allowed under bar tape cable routing (not that I'd necessarily choose that as it's on a commuter and changing cables easily would be a bonus).

It works with 11 speed stuff just fine.
