Hi,

I have a Canyon Nerve AL 29er which I've just found has a shonky SM-BB71-41 press fit bottom bracket on ('cos the BB died). The press fit looks a bit of a faff to replace, but do-able.

I'm struggling with the specifics and weighing up whether to stick something decent on myself against the cost of it going in to the LBS and having something sub-standard + labour.

Anyone any experience of doing press fit replacements themselves - is it fairly straightforward?

Done it myself in the past, not sure I'd recommend without the proper fitting tool (or a headset press).
I've removed the plastic shimano ones with an old blunt chisel, basically destroying the cups until there is nothing left 😈 Obviously not the ideal method.

Got one of these a while back which makes fitting pretty easy. Paid ~£20 from one of the German sites.

I've had as much life out of the cheapest Shimano BBs as anything else in about 5 years of having a press fit frame.

EDIT: Press fit is the WORST.

did it myself with a hammer, some wood, and a screwdriver.
not purty, but nobody died.
