I'm considering ordering a Garbaruk 10-48T cassette.
I'd normally just go ahead and get an 11spd XT cassette and OneUp it by adding a 10T mini cluster and a 45t or 47t ring.
Works faultlessly.

However, grams being grams I like the look of these machined steel Garbaruk cassettes at 300g.
They have 2 different 11spd options. a Shimano driver version and an XD Driver version.. the upside of the XD version being the 10t vs 11t on Shimano. 10-46/48 appeals more than 11-46/48, and while you can buy the cassette with a modified Shimano cage, Garbaruk say this:

Rear derailleurs made by Shimano have a different cage step when shifting compared to SRAM rear mechs, so shifting may be not as smooth as if you would use SRAM. A fully Shimano-compatible cassette is available for order here < [links back to shimano version]

I was under the impression that there's no problem running shimano mech/shifter with Sram cassettes and vice versa, the only difference being pull ratio and ramping?
Should I take note of their recommendations for faultless performance or crack on and use their 'SRAM' version with my XTR shifter/XT mech combo?

(DT wheels so either driver is fine)

I can't help I'm afraid but their cassettes do look very nice.

Reviews and reports of real world experiences are thin on the ground, so please let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the link, it's really interesting. I have a 10 / 42 and I have yet to put in the ratios for 10 48 and compare on a gear calculator but the extra range would be good. Having what I now know is a fragile Tune freehub, spinning rather than mashing is important... the 48t for snow winching would be nice.
Its a bit spendy against SRAM OEM though...

Garbaruk content aside, there almost certainly has to be someone versed in mixing sram and shimano 11spd kit?

i.e.  functionality of an xtr/xt/slx mech on an xx1/x01/x1/gx cassette?

sunrace, hope, e13 etc dont have different sram/shimano versions do they?

I run..

SRAM 11 speed cassette 10-44 ( 44T one up extender)
SRAM 11 speed chain

with..

XT Mech + Goatlink 11
XT Shifter

and

SLX Crank
One-up 30T Oval chainring (spaced inwards 3mm from the crank)

its once or twice been a little hesitant going from 36 to 44 (both ways) but everything else shifts perfectly.. I think that is more likely down to the one-up cog though other than the mechs or cassette

It could be the shifting issues Garbaruk are talking about are those that the goatlink helps solve as the shimano Mech isnt designed to be used with a 10T cog...?

(i havent run this setup without a goatlink though so cant comment on that..)

also interested to hear how you get on as im potentilaly looking at one for my next bike build.. (if shimano 12 speed doesnt get announced soon!)

I run GX 10-42 cassette with XT mech and XTR shifters - works very well - not sure what 'flawlessly' feels like.

Used too run XT cassette with Oneup conversion to provide 10-42. Always seemed to be a problem shifting from the smaller Oneup cog to the adjacent original XT cog.
