Hi, I'm looking to upgrade the brakes at some point on my gravel bike, however i need IS or post mount with adaptor calipers to fit my frame, I would hopefully be mating them with GRX RX400 shifters, will any Shimano mtb brake calipers work or is this limited to particular series? Currently looking on eBay for cheaper older models.
Thanks.
All Shimano calipers and levers are compatible, as far as I know. However, you need to make sure you have compatible hose fittings at either end.
My understanding (from looking at this recently) is that all Shimano calipers should pair up with GRX levers.
Assuming GRX400 levers are the same as 800, you'll likely need SM-BH90 flange connecting bolts to insert the MTB SM90 hose into the lever. Also, bleed funnel adaptor too apparently.
I say apparently as I've got GRX800 levers to build up a new frame and will be using SLX M666 calipers with BH-90 hoses, along with flat-to-postmount adaptors. Yet to start the build, hence 'apparently'!
Thanks all, sounds promising.
I've just fitted GRX400 levers and Deore calipers, using the hose that came with the GRX levers and brakes. Fiery death has not ensued and they worked fine on the 500km of the Pennine Rally.
