Hey all, I would like to know if it would be possible to swap out my rx400 10 speed double chainset for either an rx600 or 800 11 speed double chainset whilst keeping the rest of the drivetrain as 10 speed?

Reason being as now my gravel bike is doubling up as my road bike the 48/31 ratios available with the higher end chainsets would be preferable to the 46/30 I currently have.

From my limited research it seems that it might, but I would be interested to know if anyone is actually doing this, are you using a 10 or 11 speed chain, and if 11 will the 10 speed front mech still shift the chain okay?

If a change of front mech was required i'm assuming the 10 speed shifters would still have the same cable pull, is that correct?

Thanks.

Are there not replacement chainrings available so you don't need a whole new chainset?

Not Shimano ones no, in their wisdom Shimano decided that the lower tiered grx groupset riders could only have 46/30.

The rings  have the same BCDs as yours though, so should fit your chainset? Perhaps the offsets differ though.

11 spd rings might cause the chain to contact the shifting ramps on the big ring earlier on the block than it would on 10spd rings, but should otherwise be fine. More efficient on the big ring anyway, so not terrible to be prompted to shift up onto it.
