Hi, got front and rear Deore brakes on my commuter which have worked great for the last year. However after a couple of weeks with no use they both now appear to be contaminated - very poor performance and squeel.

I've had a faulty Deore calliper in the past where the seals let out a tiny amount of fluid, but for both to go at the same time?!

Common issue or not?

By the way, the bike hadn't been cleaned since the last ride so I can't see it being contaminated that way.

I had the same issue on my XTs and SLXs. Both got better temporarily after some fast descents and heavy braking got plenty of heat in them, but the next day they'd be back to rubbish.

Superstar Organics in both now, plenty of power, plenty of quiteness.

OP; your calipers/pads/rotors are not contaminated.

Disc brakes sometimes make noise.

Brake pad friction characteristics change with time/humidity/temperature/speed/the hour of the day (almost!).

The unavoidable conclusion; keep riding and the noise may go away and the performance may get better. However changing out parts may not improve anything but it WILL lighten your wallet.
