I'm looking for a decent 36H rear hub for touring on and I've just spotted these for about £30.

Anyone have any experience of them? Decent seals? Do they use a oversize alloy axle like the new XT hubs?

I have had a few problems with the 'new' XT hubs so anything that isn't like them would be a bonus. Something to do with the new axle - who knows why they changed it as the old ones were great.

wifey's got one on her dawes. done 4 or 5 thousand miles at least including LEJOG where it rained every day and plenty of offroad bits without any problems at all.

on another note, i just had a pair of touring wheels built up on rigida CSS ceramic rims. very pimp and i've seen pictures of pan flat braking surfaces after 10000+miles (not cheap mind)

The newer xt hubs have had dreadful press.

Any shimano hub should be up for touring fine. I'd go LX for the sealing (is this LX?)

Thanks for all your thoughts. Think I'll go with them, according to shimano's tech documents it's got a 10mm axle.

PS. Anyone know the measurements of them so I can order spokes at the same time. Can't seem to find them online anywhere.
