If someone had bought a 55mm chainline Shimano crankset, and couldn't find the 2 3mm crank spacers amongst the mountain of unneeded Lifeline/Nukeproof/Prime tat that they'd bought, would they're be acting wrong with just running an extra 2.5mm space either side of their 73mm bb? Axle appears to be a consistent diameter.

Asking for a friend/idiot, natch.

Interesting, didn't end up needing any spacers at all...

Good but what chainline did you end up with? With zero spacers I don't see how you could get 52mm.

I don't see how that can be, the preload thingy can't take up 6mm slack. Sure it's a 55mm crankset? what's the model number?

Mystery solved. You were both right. The bargain xt 8120 cranks I bought were actually 8100s. Win all round.
