Are the chainrings interchangeable from different manufacturers? I'm looking to upgrade my outer 42t chain ring to a 48 tooth chain ring, will this work?

You've got a 22, 32, 42, so to change to a 48, you'd also need to change the middle to a 36 and probably the inner as well (the chain won't shift up from 32-48, too big a gap) by the time you've done this it#s probably cheaper to have changed the whole chainset anyway.

I had a feeling that it was going to be too big a gap :/ Guess I'll have to start looking out for cheap chainsets in the classified section then 🙂 Thanks for the help!
