As in the picture below, does the wire loop round the two bolts?

Thanks, looked online and can't find info or pics of how it looks secured

I can see what it does, but the question is why bother?!

In all my years of cycling, I have never had a brake bolt loosen (or been aware of it happening to someone).

Why not?

I've had brake rotor bolts spontaneously loosen. I probably hadn't checked them in hundreds of miles but then who actually does? Shimano rotors come with a thin metal plate you're meant to bend arround the triangular bolt heads they supply.

I think newer ones come with plastic clips for the calliper bolts which do the same thing but easier on a production line.

It's probably a requirement in some market and easier to make them universal rather than make a specific brake bolt for the German/Japanese/South Africa/USA/Other market. Wouldn't surprise me if it's Japan.

Having had the both the rear bolts on my tandem come loose when doing a long steep twisty decent when touring (had be tightened 4 weeks earlier when building the bike in Toulouse airport, and then ticked off my service checklist 2 weeks before) I definitely lock wire my brake bolts.

I suspect heat was a factor as had next to no pads in the front caliper so was relying heavily on the rear, it got hot enough to flake paint off the frame next to it! Luckily I realised something was very wrong (lever felt lumpy as one bolt was gone so it twisted up 5mm off the disc) and used the remaining front brake to stop us. Luckily I had a spare bolt checked it daily from then on!

it's the "gnnaaarrrr" factor for the enduro crew ... scrutineering ... check 😉

seriously though, only ever seen it on the xtr brakes. never even fitted the
plastic clips on my slx/xt abomination and so far, no loose bolts.
