I've got a set of XT M785 (I think) brakes and am looking to buy a new set of brakes for my 2nd bike. But I don't really want to spend XT money when this bike would be quite happy with Deore or SLX.
However, I'd like to be able to share brakepads across both bikes to make things easier and so that I don't have to mess around with my tool kit each time I swap bikes.
Does anyone know what other models share the same brakepads as the XT M785?
New SLX definitely do, as I did the same thing.
Generally deore/slx/xt use the same pad. They switched pad design a few years ago but the M785 is the same as the current deore and slx. I think most, if not all, of the differences are in the lever
All current Shimano Deore/SLX/XT/XTR are the same (as your XT m785s).
My Deore and XT (both the newer types) do not share the same pad type.
On this Superstar identifier, the XT are S5 and the Deore are S1 I think.
Unless they've changed it recently to the same type, then it's not.
There is an old thread about this very question here...
Edit - Just had a look on Chain, I think they've changed the caliper design now on current Deore so you should be fine..
Deore M596 are different, Deore M615 are the same..
Yeah the Deore caliper design changed more recently than the others.
Current 615 Deores are the same as the XTs above S5.
Latest Deore M615 take finned ice tech pads too, and the same Superstar pads I stick in the latest SLX - S5?
Very well timed thread as I need some new pads for some M615 brakes. On the basis the S5 is sold at at SSCs, any good tips on alternative good value and good quality pads?
I've got 3 year old XT & 6 month old Deore and they are both S5
Cheers for the replies everyone. I'm looking at the M615 Deores.
