Am I right in thinking that if I drop the wheel remove the pads and then insert a 8mm spacer, instead of the standard 10mm spacer. Then pump lever so pistons clamp thinner spacer.
Should this then remove some of the free stroke at the lever giving me am earlier bite point ?
Thanks
maybe, but only til the pads wear a bit - it's the seals that retract the pistons isn't it ?
It will work as I've done it in many a magura , you actually " overfill" the system and when I last did it , with a 6mm Allan key I had to let some fluid out to get the disc back in ! So maybe 6mm was too adventurous 🙂
There is an easier way which I successfully tried at the weekend. Leave the wheel and pads in but unbolt the calliper from the frame/forks and swing it off the disc.
My Shimano SLX discs are 1.7MM thick. If you get your feeler gauges out and set them at 1.5MM, pop them between the pads and squeeze the lever this will move the pads in a bit and you will get an earlier bite point on the disc. You can experiment with different widths and if it gets too tight just push the pads back and go again.
Repeat when pads wear a bit more.
Thanks everybody
