How easy/cheap/expensive is it to add the reach adjuster (as found on SLX/XT brakes) to my Zee brake levers which require adjustment via allen key?
Not essential, but it'd be great to have tool-free adjustment on my Zees.
(I've already searched online but I must be looking for the wrong thing as no results answered this question)
You could (possibly) replace the blades with this part (and the right-handed equivalent), but probably not that much cheaper than new XT Levers.
Shimano don't list the adjuster separately, it's part of the blade unit.

Yes you could pop the XT lever blades into the Zee body (I have done it as an emergency repair job). But at £24.99 per lever blade you are better off just buying complete levers.
These guys are VERY cheap for levers
Ah, cheers folks. Just not worth the cost unless I can find some knackered SLX/XT levers and cannibalise them for bits.
Im not trolling, surely you only adjust your lever the once and thats it? If its got reach adjustment by allen key isnt that enough? I cant say Ive touched mine beyond the initial, "ooh whats that knob do?".
@bigyin +1
Never touched mine since the initial installation, because - surprise - my hands are still the same size!

I asked the same last time something like this popped up and got vague answers about cycling on the top of Everest or something.
No, serious question.
I've yet to experience it with the Zee's, but I was frequently needing to adjust the reach on my Formula RX as the pads wore. It got bloody annoying out in the Alps during the summer when I was going through a set of (admittedly soft) pads per day. It was an utter PITA needing to reach for the allen key, adjust it a bit, then adjust it a bit more.
I guess brakes shouldn't need this constant level of adjustment then?
I've never had to adjust the reach on any hydraulic brake. What I have done is over-filled them so that very little lever travel is necessary. That's just how I like the set up.

I get that from time to time too, but usually a sign there's a bleed needed or are leaking fluid.
I can only assume that a11y has his lever closer to the bars, so as the pads wear the lever pulls to the bars and has to adjust it outwards a bit?

Fairly close, but yes basically when I put in new pads I need to adjust them outwards to counteract the change in bite point. They feel perfectly firm and powerful, no evidence of fluid leak that I can see.
Back on this topic, I guess adding adjusters to my Zees is a non-starter for me. Hopefullly not required.
We ignoring the how to above?
