I have the above combo which I'm fitting to a frame with a 73mm shell, no chain guide or E type derailer. The BB is a Dura Ace, but I've used them on other 73mm shells before so I don't think that's the issue. (Stockpiled loads when they were on sale)... Cranks are new RF Aeffect cinch.

When I torque the 8mm bolt they pretty much stop turning. I tried swapping the 2.5mm spacer for a 0.7mm and it was better but not right. Eventually fitted it with no spacers and there's a bit of resistance. I haven't fitted the chain yet but with all the spacers removed from the swingarm mounted chainguide the chain ring isn't central in the guide, I don't know if this will be an issue yet? Chainline is around 50mm.

Shall I try a different BB, or just ride it?

Hmm, might be the obvious and you overtightened the 8mm bolt?

AFAIK the spacers define the chainline so probably not a good idea to remove them...the only other thing is that the spacer(s) may need to be turned around as some of the online documents show that the the rubber washer in the spacer needs to be closest to the BB shell.

My Aeffect cranks went on ok with an XT BB plus all the driveside spacers that I had used with the Race Face BB. the bike was supplied with. The info says to tighten to 50Nm but to be honest I worked on the principle of "tight but turning smoothly" which seemed to be ok and is still working 8 months later.

Road BB cups are 1mm wider than MTB cups, so 2mm overall, and RF cranks rely on the BB width being spot-on to avoid preloading the bearings. If you haven't removed the 2mm worth of spacers, you'll be overtightening the bearings.

Interesting, I never knew that! I've removed 2.5 mm worth of spacers. And it's stiff.

These rubber washers, do you mean on the crank spindle? I have various plastic spacers on the NDS which appear fixed.

Mine fitted with a tourque wrench don't spin as freely as the same gusset BB did with the old cranks. On the other bike with hope BB another pair spins freely.

I seem to remember a thick washer/spacer with an orange line that needed to be the right way round but thats on a fat bike. Hope BB. spins v freely

I've got a spare Token BB sat in the garage, I'll see if I have more luck with that and the correct spacer on the DS cup.

Spin freely on a XTR BB in a 73mm shell with one 2.5mm spacer fitted on the DS. The crank spacer with the red line must go the right way round (towards the BB).

Okay I guess that's the issue, I saw that in the provided instructions but assumed it was for PF type BB's.... mine doesn't have that part.
