Or do I just keep swapping between V12s and SPDs?

For mountain bike use? Single-siders are a fairly terrible idea, i'd be sticking with the current plan

They are a bit slippy in the wet and lethal in leather soled shoes.

They tend to settle SPD side up (which may or may not be an issue for you).

They lasted longer than any other single sided pedal I've had. Mine developed a click after a year or so, they are off the bike at the moment awaiting me taking them apart to see if the bearings are replaceable.

I use the cheaper steel caged ones - flat side for commuting - on a road bike.

Work great, but nothing like V12s for grip.

I don't really like them - tend to always be the wrong way up for whichever shoe you choose. Ok for a shopping/pub bike.

I quite like the A530 pedals. Handy for commuting in wellies or trainers etc. Though yes, they can be a bit slippy in the wet, depends on your shoes. I find they usually stick one way round, so not too hard to clip in.

The XT T8000 pedals could be worth a look, they have a bigger platform, with pins, so should be grippier.

I have a pair for my hardtail. Use it for local xc use and commuting. Commute is less than 2 miles so I'm buggered if I'm changing pedals for that so these are a good compromise. As has been said the grip isn't the best, I've tried some skateboard grip tape but that just comes off in the wet.

The T8000 look much better but at £60+ I won't be changing anytime soon.

"They are a bit slippy in the wet and lethal in leather soled shoes"

no idea on leather shoes but I'd replace bit with very - got caught in a thunder storm last night and they were terrible

on positive side i mainly ride clipped in and as said they fall that way up - and convenient for ride to shops or wherever when not wearing spds I wouldn't think great for technical riding in flats - platform yes / grip no

another option is i think called XT T8000 touring pedals are bit thick profile but SPD one side pins the other and do the same job but can be harder to find   ^^^as said while I looked up the number!^^
