I’m gutted to be asking a technical question but I’m not 100% sure...

I have, on order, a Deore 10 speed M610 shadow rear derailleur to use with a Shimano 9 speed shifter and cassette.

Will this actually work or is the leverage ratio different between 9 and 10 speed?

Cheers

Nope, Won't work.

Useful shifting info has been updated with some more 10/11 speed dynasys numbers recently...

A sram 9 speed shifter will work if you fit the cable funny.

Going back some years there used to be a fix where you could add a couple of washers under the cable. Then someone made a 3mm brass block to replace the washers. What it does is lengthen the lever so for every pull of the cable the mech moves a little less.
