In the the market for a new groupset and struggling to tell if Shimanos 12 speed cranks are boost or not. The 11 speed cranks have a B in the name e.g MT8100B which denotes boost spacing, but this doesnt appear to apply to the 12 speed cranks.

Are all 12 speed cranks boost, or are they non boost and you add a spacer to get the chain line correct? If so, do the spacers come with teh crank?

Technical detais on the website state:

1x12-speed crank FC-M8100-1 crankset:

chainline: 52 mm
Q-Factor: 172 mm
recommended rear O.L.D.: 142 / 148 mm (Boost)

The boost part above I assume refers to the rear wheel spacing rather than the crank spacing.

Cheers

52mm works on 142 and Boost unless frame has insufficient clearance in which case use the 55mm option.

Can only see that being needed if you run a big chainring size though. All SRAMs Boost chainsets are 52mm.

The frame manufacturer reccommends 52mm chainline so I should be fine.

Wll be a 32 chainring at the front.

So that crank has boost spacing then, I don't need to add washers or anything because the chainline is already correct?

Cheers

Yes. That’s what I’ve got running on my chameleon with a boost rear end.
