Will a road 11 speed rear mech work with an MTB 11 speed Shifter? A short or medium cage 105 rear mech is a lot cheaper than the mtb versions. Haven't found any cheaper 11 speed Mtb rear mechs anywhere.
I know mixing and matching 9 speed road and mtb worked without a problem but not sure about newer systems.
Thanks

I have just set up a 11 speed shifter and 10 speed rear mech, all XT and they all seem to work perfectly. So, Dynasys 1 mech and Dynnasys 2 shifter, regardless to what is said is fine. I did put a mech dropper as it wouldnt clear the 46t sprocket as well.
I put a 105 mech on a Zee shifter and wouldnt work on 10 sp though. So had to get a Zee mech as wanted a short arm on a hack bike to work and I thought the 105 mechs were pennies to get round it.

Shimano 11s road has quite a different cable pull ratio to Shimano 11s MTB so no, it won't work.
