My first new 11 speed chain and it comes with it's own quick link.

Simply slide the two pieces together and pull for them to fall on the floor.

Slide together, squeeze tight and pull for them to sit there on the chain, not properly connected.

Slide together, squeeze and pull like as manic orangutan and nothing.

What am I missing?

Get them to the not properly connected state then apply pressure to one of the pedals with the back brake locked. Should pop into place.

Lock them using the crank rotation, rest bike on ground. Ensure chain link is centered above the chainstay, firmly apply rear brake and stand on drive side pedal. Push down until the link seats.

Yep, it's a satisfying clunk when it happens.

Not as satisfying and chain link pliers though.

Chain link tools are quite cheap and make life a lot easier!

I'd agree that the one that takes them apart makes life easier. I don't see any need for one to reconnect them at all. So easy to do.

The same tool does both so not really an issue! But agreed don’t usually use it to connect but they can be a got to get apart sometimes.
Without a tool that is...

Top tip: before doing this after replacing a worn chain and cassette, check that your chainring isn't worn too.

Just been shopping to replace a tool I broke, and the majority of these tools only open, need to make sure you get one that opens AND closes. KMC for example do separate opening and closing tools. Topeak and a few other do expensive tools that only close.

BBB and Park ones open and close.

Tis true, much to my annoyance. Only found out after it arrived that the only i had closes the quick link, grrrrr.

It’s really good that we’ve replaced the single use only joining pins that used to come with Shimano chains and require a dedicated tool to fit with these quick links that are so easy to use and can be removed and refitted by hand multiplied times isn’t it?
