i noticed this cassette has snook into shimano’s range.
i’ve previously used Sunrace 11-50 with my SRAM GX 11sp set up and it ran no issues. But shifting wasnt quite as nice or crisp as shimano or sram cassettes.
This shimano one has a better ratio than sunrace and bigger range than sram but has anyone used it successfully with SRAM 11sp rear mech?
Link please as I'm curious.
Not with SRAM but using it in 2 bikes with a GRX rear mech for about 2.5 years....not sure it's snuck in though
There’s a 51t specific Deore rear mech to go with it as well. £30. Bargain. Dump the SRAM.
I've been running it for 2 years with the specific Deore rear mech.
It's wide-range and the mech has to cope with that.

I use one on my gravel bike with SRAM Rival (and a longer cage), works perfectly.
It's the CS-m5100, cheap and heavy but durable. Been running on on my full sus and the other halfs bike with a 12 speed XT mech, 11 speed XT shifter and 11 speed XTR chain.
Lots of opinions here. https://www.mtbr.com/threads/shimano-m5100-11-51-11-speed-cassette.1145945/page-12
The early ones had some issue with the rivets coming lose but got mine swapped under warranty and no issue on any of them since.
Seen no reason to "upgrade" to 12 speed since as it's gives a very similar ratio and I'm not one to care about weight.
Garbaruk do an 11 speed HG 11-50 cassette which is lighter if weight concerns you.
been running mine on an xt 11 speed mech no issues, want to say medium cage
cassette is an absolute boat anchor.. but works fine
I say snuck in, I’ve just never seen it in the range when looking big cassettes for 11sp as they always seemed to stop at 42T other than sunrace.
i’ve already got SRAM mech n shifter in 11sp and XT mech n shifter in 12sp. Xt is is quite frankly shite in anything but dry weather. Clutch continually sticks and mucks up shifting and compared to SRAM its awful! Had the mech back 2x under warranty but each time shifting is awful. Has been the same in the last 3 xt shod bikes so reluctant to reuse 12sp on the next build.
50t ran fine with gx 11sp mech & b-scew to spare and chain tension ok so another tooth shouldn't make too much difference should it?
I had one with loose rivets, it was replaced by madison but in the mean time a sunrace snuck on and hasn't left.
Shimano have slowly trickled down bigger cassettes onto 10 and 11 speed. 10 was initially up to 36 and 11 to 42 but I think Shimano now do an 11-46 10 speed cassette (other brands do larger) and the 11-51 11 speed.
There's not really a reason to upgrade to 12 speed purely for range. I run 11-51 11 speed Deore on one bike and 11-48 10 speed Deore (microshift cassette) on the other.

It's svelte compared to the 12sp sunrace one that came on my hard tail!

Very much ^^this^^
Scored one of the cheapy Microshift 10 speed, 11-48 cassettes from a previous PSA, with a 5100 mech and my existing old zee shifter that's proper bargain bin wide-range, without needing to sell a kidney or buy a whole new drivetrain.
Probably saves a wee bit of weight over 12 speed as it's two less chunks of stamped steel...
I'm running 3 of these Deore cassettes and mech combos. A bit heavy but they shift fine and the range of gears is almost unmatched price wise. However, on each of the 3 cassettes I'm having issues where they seem to work loose and the large single piece begins clunking as it moves a few mm in either direction separately from the smaller sprockets. Has anyone else had this?
They are all on different wheels (Hunt, Nukeproof and Shimano). All cranked up as tight as I can manage and I've tried different lock rings with more threads. No spacers came with the cassettes, is anyone else running a thin one at the base of the freehub? I tried putting a plastic spacer from a cassette at the base which has helped but needed the widest lock ring to engage, and the mech adjusted as the cassette was pushed outboard by a few mm.
Any similar experiences or set up tips?
Cheers
