I'm fixing one of the work bikes, 8speed shifter with integrated brake lever. The bike has cable discs but the shifters i've looked at say V brake only, anyone got any suggestions.

Lots of cable disks are made to be used by V-brake levers (e.g. Avid BB7s come in both a road and MTB variety). As long as it's the right amount of cable pull you should have no problems.

It'll be fine with any disc designed to work with v brake levers.
