Normally I'd be heading out on Ringinglow and know that side of the Peak pretty well, but looking to notch up some miles for this silly F500 thing. Has anyone got a handy 100km ish route without too many hills? Is there anything nice east of the M1? I rode to Doncaster once and it was fairly dreadful.
Cheers!
Not a specific route as such but look at the quiet roads between the A6 and A61 heading directly south towards Belper. You can avoid most main roads (or just have to cross them), not massive hills and nice scenery. I’ve done a fair bit on the gravel bike round there from Totley and it’s very nice riding.
I did 100km back from Lincoln but that was mainly canals, rivers & railways.
Along the tops down to Crich is pretty flat once out of Sheffield.
East to Cleethorpes is 130km, train back.
Heading east for a loop is a bit of a pain as you say. The first and last 25km are a bit grim, not leaving much good riding.
There’s lots of good road riding east of Sheffield, the tricky bit is navigating out of town to beyond the M1. I’ve done this 60km loop a couple of times and it’s very pleasant. To get the 100km in, just ride a bit further east before turning around 🙂

Nothing specific in mind but how about heading over to Worksop then down through Clumber towards Edwinstowe, back West somewhere like Clay Cross and home via Dronfield?
Lots of nice stuff in the White Peak, which you can join together. I'd say head up Owler Bar, down past Chatsworth and towards Bakewell, youlgreave, birchover, darley dale, over to Ashover, Wingerworth then Chesterfield. Then up over the hills above Dronfield (Hundall, Apperknowle, Coal Aston. Then home.
