riding from leeds to castleton.
coming into sheffield via wortley then wharncliffe.
looking for the quietest way through to ringinglow.
any advice greatly appreciated.
Wharncliffe, Oughtibridge, follow the river & onto Clay Wheels Lane, across Hillsborough park, up Rivelin, up Wyming brook, Roper hill, Alpaca farm, Ringinglow.
Or if you don't mind hills, the straight line of Oughtibridge, Worral, Loxley, Stannington, Rivelin, Forge Dam, Ringinglow would also be fairly quiet.
Thanks @thepodge, saved me typing out exactly the same route. In Rivelin you can stay off the main road for most of it by the river.
Assuming you’re on a road bike…
I’d suggest skirting round the north west corner of Sheff
Hang a right at Oughtibridge towards high and low bradfield then it’s a slog up the hill to stannington. Then down rails road to cross the a57. Up lodge lane (oof) to pop up at lodge moor then take one of the many quiet lanes through the mayfield valley to Ringinglow.
For reference, I happily take my 7 year old on the first route I suggested, we do sometimes use a pavement or two round the Wednesday ground and between Rivelin & Wyming but its mainly cycleways, quiet roads and ridable footpaths.
Ah well yeah totally agree then rivelin valley followed by whyming Brook is lovely. A pint of farmers blonde in the Norfolk arms awaits…
I live on that route and do it regular so any questions just give me a shout.
just plotted the route. 99km and very little road.
It's 105 from mine to York so you must be taking quite a wiggly line.
leeds, methley, castleford, stanley, royston, barnsley, wortley, wharncliffe, hillsboro, where you said, castleton.
various sections of TPT. very small amount of road.
